Exams again...

Hai.
How is your studies friend? (mine is not so good, but I it not to be so.) Many say that education gives us economical security, power and other extras. But, I won’t agree with that. Money, power and other things are axillaries. The main aim of education is enlightenment of the spirit. I study for that only. When you start studying with that purpose in mind all other things come to you naturally.


You may ask, “Then why is your study not good?”. This is only temporary. I did not well in my model exams, as they were held without any study leave. Of course, there were many holidays. Even, just before the exam week i.e., October 8-12 were pooja holidays. Apart from that, I took two more days leave and I didn’t attend exams of two subjects also. Still, I was not able to perform well in the remaining exams.

Don’t be worried. I will do excellently in University exams. In the 1st semester, I scored only 45 in Engg. Physics and 44 in Engg. Chemistry in the model exam. My lecturer scolded me in front of girls and it was a great insult for me (later I heard that girls don’t bother about such things). I scored 92 in Engg. Phy., and 89 in Engg. chem., in the University exams.


Though I worked a little hard, I should thank the question paper setters. Ask anyone studying in Trichy Anna University, or its affiliated colleges about the toughness of the question paper. They will start laughing. Chennai-AU fees only Rs.100 per paper as exam fee, but, Trichy-AU fees Rs.125 per paper.
We used to say that they get extra fee for setting the Q-paper easily.


Whatever be the case, I have four weeks of study holidays. Holidays start from Oct. 26 to Nov. 9, after which I have university practical exams upto Nov. 15. Holidays start again from the next day and continue till Nov.28. University theory exams start from Nov.29.

My Music

Have you ever listened to old Tamil movie songs, especially those of P.Susheela? This night as I write, I am listening to her wonderful songs from Kodaikanal FM. I have some collections of P.Susheela, but listening to the radio is really a wonderful experience. If you get chance please listen to the following songs (If you don’t get them ask the elders of your home. They will surely know them.):

There many other wonderful songs. I’ll tell them some other time. I think she has some magic in her voice. I’m sensitive to music, you know, Susheelama’s voice has even made my tears roll down my cheeks. Really, music is Godly. It refreshes us; lightens our hearts; encourages us; lessens our worries.

Talking about music, I should tell you about Harris Jeyaraj’s background music the movie “Dhaam Dhoom”. Isn’t it exiting and fantastic? Tell me about this.

Google!

Almost everyone of us who enter into the web would have used Google’s search at least once. I use Google search more than 10 times whenever I browse for more than 1 hour. Xerox is actually the name of the machine, which made photocopies. However, now xeroxing means taking photocopies, i.e., the machine’s name itself became the work it does. Don’t be surprised in future when someone says, “I need to know about this stuff. Let me google it”. Surely, googling will mean searching in future.

Recently, I read a book about Google in Tamil: “Thedu – Googulin vetri kadhai” by N.Chokkan (nchokkan@gmail.com) published by Kizhakku Pathipagam (www.kizhakku.in).It wonderfully explains everything about Google, starting from the first, i.e., starting from how the name Google was coined. Actually, the correct spelling is ‘googol’. Check it by asking anyone, the spelling of Google. Out of 100 surely above 90 will answer as ‘Google’. Even, Larry and Serge were not aware of it. At first, they created their website as www.google.com. Only after being told by one of their colleagues, they came to know about this. But, googol.com had already been registered by another person and he refused to give it for Larry-Serge. Also, ‘Google’ was more crisp and nice than ‘googol’. So, they continued to have the same name.

ஹாய் friend ! How are you?

I hope you are fine. How is the festival fever there? It’s almost reaching its peak now. It’s beautifully raining outside in this wonderful evening. Have got your dresses for Diwali? I personally felt that I should celebrate this festival-of course, I don’t like to celebrate it at all. I just want to treat it-without crackers. Once, I used to long for crackers at Diwali and for making model Christmas (we call “kudil” in Tamil). Last year I helped my family to clean my home and I created the model creatively for Christmas. I don’t know whether I could do this year or not.

Yesterday, I received an sms that said –

40 subjects
400 experiments
4000 assignments
40000 hours
400000 rupees

A normal human being cannot do it.

Only super men called “Engineering students” can do it.

Don’t you think that the above message is true? If you too are an Engg. student (especially after 2nd semester) you will say “yes”. OK, let me come to the matter. I have already said that like a sleepaholic I am sleeping nowadays. Tiredness makes me do no work at home. In this case, I’m blessed with a good family that does every work for me. That’s why I said, I don’t know whether I could do decorations and model this year or not.

Now the rain has started a lightly heavily, but still, it’s beautiful to watch. For this Diwali, I have decided not to buy dresses also. You may wonder how my family celebrates both Diwali and Christmas. We celebrate all festivals, which, I thought that bring happiness and unity. Just few minutes before, I thought that I should change my thought, but now I think it’s true. At least to some extent, festivals make us feel out of hatred or jealousy or any other bad impression we make on others and those others make on us.

Just say a word, “ Happy Diwali sir” and most adamant professor will smile at you. Or, say a wish to a boy or a girl, for whose friendship you are longing for, I’m sure that you will become friends in one month.

All right friend, wish you a very happy Diwali. Don’t burn crackers and spoil the environment. Celebrate in a harmonious way and help the poor near your locality in this joyful moment.

Is everthing OK with Engg.?

Last week, I went thro’ the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University’s ECE syllabus. I was surprised to see that they had no physics, chemistry subjects at all. But in AU-Chennai, students have physics and chemistry for one complete year, while in AU-Trichy these subjects are split into two for 2 semesters of 1st year. I saw only ECE syllabus and I’m saying based on that. If you could see for other branches, please tell me how they are framed. In JNTU, from the 1st year itself students study their core subjects, which is not with the case of AU-students. Students of ECE, IT, CSE etc, study Basic Mechanical Engg. I don’t know what use it will be of.

Of course, the subjects were interesting but in AU-T there are more irrelevant subjects for ECE, IT, CSE students. There were only 2 computer subjects DCF (Digital computer Fundamentals) and computer lab (involving MS-Office and C language). However, Mech, Chem, Auto and civil and such students were very lucky as engg phy., engg che., BE(Mech and Civil) had relevant topics. If syllabi were framed for each branch it would have been nice. Now they (AU-T) have changed the syllabus again. The changes may be small or large. But, what is the need for change in syllabus just after one year? The first batch students of any Institution or Univ. are hardly lucky. This has been proved again. One good thing with AU-T is that sem. pattern in 1st year was very helpful.

I heard that in Kerala, Karnataka and other states, tuition fees for professional courses especially for engg. is very high. Tamil Nadu is proud that the tuition fees are very low when compared with many other states. But the standard of teaching is low in engg. colleges located in villages. Well-qualified lecturers are very low in number. Newcomers handle the classes with awkward grammatical errors, less understanding of the subject etc. Some lecturers prepare for the classes only after coming to the college. To stop this, Univ. authorities should inspect the colleges suddenly.

I sleep when the night sleeps

These days I go to bed only at 12 O’clock. I spent some nights writing assignments and from then on this habit has started. Until late night, I can’t sleep and this reflects on my classes. This week, on 2 or 3 Maths classes I was not able to open my eyes at all. In one of the Maths classes, slowly I took my pencil (whenever I slept in classes I used to write in pencil because you can see only scribbles after the class is over), started writing (scribbling).

My pencil slipped down, and edge broke down. Unable to withstand anymore, I put down my head down on the desk and started sleeping. And, do you know one thing? I am a first bench fellow. If this is the case with the Maths classes itself (which are meant to be practical) imagine the situation at other classes.

My friends had started laughing at me. Whenever I slept, my friends used to watch my postures and they used to have a good time that way. I won’t say that the mistake was the lecturer’s. I always lively classes, but, sometimes theoretical explanations turn me dizzy. Have you slept in classroom? Tell me.

Diary

Hi friend! How are you?

Once I had the wonderful habit of writing diary. Yes, really it is wonderful, but sometime ago. I abandoned that habit. Now, I have started talking to you. But that’s also a difficult work for me. I’m writing my thoughts everyday in my PC and I’m posting it at even intervals.

If you could be someone in Trichy, you must listen to DIARY at Hello FM (10-11 PM). It’s fantastic, it’s awesome, it’s different, it’s healing and words don’t come now....

Universe is as beautiful as you are

Life is really wonderful and thrilling. I’ll tell you why. Just think of this. How big this universe is. You and I are the part of this great universe. Compared to the size of the Sun and other heavenly bodies we are all dusts. Still, you see we do wonders (I mean the mankind) and explore everything in this universe.

 

Whenever I used to look up the sky at night, it surprises me (especially when there is no power). Stars blinking from far away take my thoughts beyond the bounds of time. When would have God made them? Will the same earth and space remain after a 100 years? Try this- the next time when the power is gone, or when you go to the terrace at night, watch the sky. What were your thoughts? Write to me please. I am eager to hear you.
